BHORAMDEO SANCTUARY

Bhoramdeo Sanctuary is spread over Green Hariers. Expanded in the area of 352 square kilometer. Kanha National Park and Achanakmar Tiger reserve provides protection for both. Bhormadeo Sanctuary was notified in the year 2001. Then Chhattisgarh was formed as a new state. Along with the Chilphi Valley, an extended buffer zone of Kanha National Park also came to the newly formed Chhattisgarh state. Since this area of Bhoramdeo and Chilphi was already in the form of a corridor between the Khanha National Park and Achnakmar, the movement of wildlife has always been there.

BHORAMDEO TEMPLES AND FORT REMNANTS

Just a few minutes walking distance from BJR is found the temple complex of Bhoramdeo, whose intricately carved sandstone structures date back from the 11 th Century, contemporary and similar to those of the better known Khajuraho Temples. The remnants of a fort can also be seen nearby, and archeologists are at work at this site. Raja Ramachandra of the Nag Dynasty is said to have erected the Bhoramdeo temples to Lord Vishnu. The restoration of the temples was taken up and completed in the early 1900’s, and rededicated to Lord Shiva.

CYCLING, TREKKING, CAMPING

A favourite trip is a cycle ride from Kanha National Park with an overnight camp enroute. Sunny has good Indian mountain bikes and luggage and camping kit is carried by car.  Shorter local cycle rides are the best way to explore, and the area is safe and friendly enough for solo pottering. And for those who like running there is a wealth of road and trail routes available, plus plenty of laughing children to speed one on one’s way.Long or short treks into the forested hills are also arranged.
